Traveller's Notes

DESI stands for Developing Ecologically Sustainable Industries, and also means “indigenous” in various Indian tongues. It was set up to provide weavers with a place to sell their handcrafted wares.

The flagship store, with it’s beautiful red oxidised floor, was converted from an old house. Plus, it carries a range of eco-friendly items like clothing, scarves, and chemical-free quilts.

The DESI stores also have extensive book collections about tradition, sustainability and literature in English and Kannada.
